Your Trustee Directors

BTPS has a corporate trustee, BT Pension Scheme Trustees Ltd, and this company currently has eight Trustee Directors. In addition to the Chairman*, there are three employer nominated Trustee Directors and four member nominated Trustee Directors on the board. 

*The Chairman is appointed by BT with the agreement of the recognised BT Trade Unions and NFOP. 

Currently, the Trustee Directors are:

Appointed: 11 January 2011. Adrian Askew became a National Official of the Society of Telecom Executives (now the Connect Sector of Prospect) in 1987 and retired as General Secretary of Connect at the end of 2009. He was lead officer on pensions matters for the BT Unions from 1997-2003 and was Chair of Trustees for the Connect Pension and Life Assurance Scheme from 2003-2009. He is a member of the National Federation of Occupational Pensioners.

Appointed: 1 January 2006. David Barford qualified as an actuary in 1972 and has worked in the actuarial and human resource consulting business since 1970. Previously, he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Mercer Human Resource Consulting Ltd and a director of the global firm Mercer Inc. He is deputy chair of the BT Pension Scheme and is also Chairman of the P&O Pension Scheme.

Appointed: 1 May 1998. Donald MacDonald retired from the CWU in 2004. He had been the Union's Telecom Recruitment Officer, and was formerly President of the Union. A Post Office and BT telecommunications technician for many years, he previously served as a Director of BT Quest Ltd (BT Qualifying Employee Shares Trust) as an employee representative. Donald is a member of the CWU and of the NFOP, and a past Chairman of United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment. He is a BTPS pensioner.

Appointed: 1 September 1997. Billy McClory was employed by Post Office Telecommunications 1968-78, became a National Officer of CPSA, then NCU in 1984 and CWU in 1995. Responsible in the NCU for pension matters in the Post Office and BT, Billy was the lead officer on pension matters for the BT Unions 1990-97. He is a member of NFOP.

Appointed: 9 April 2008. Andrew Parker became Company Secretary of BT Group PLC with effect from 1 April 2008. He has previously held roles as General Counsel of two of BT's operational divisions, most recently of BT Retail. He has a degree in Law and is a qualified Solicitor. He is an active member of BTPS.

Appointed 1st June 2009. Beryl Shepherd has been employed by BT since 1978 and is currently a member of the National Executive Committee of the CWU. A position that she has held since 2002. Beryl is also Vice President of the CWU and the Chair of the Telecoms and Financial Services sector. Beryl is the Chair of the Trustees of the National Communications Union Staff Superannuation Scheme (NCUSSS). She is an active member of BTPS and a member of the NFOP.

Appointed: 1 September 2009. Paul is a Non-Executive Chairman of State Street Managed Pension Funds. He is also a Non-Executive Director of WPP Group plc, NipponKoa Europe Insurance Limited and TR Property Investment Trust PLC. He acts as Chair of two British Airways Pension Schemes. He also acts as Chair of the Trustees and of Investment Committee for Rolls-Royce plc Pension Fund. He is a past President of the Association of Corporate Treasurers. Appointed CBE in 2010 New Year's Honours 'for services to financial services'.

Appointed: 1 July 2007. John Wroe is Director - Group Treasury, Tax and Risk Management of BT Group, responsible for BT's tax, treasury, and risk management activities. John has a degree in economics and is a Chartered Accountant. He joined BT in 1992, prior to which he worked for Coopers & Lybrand. He is an active member of BTPS.
